This week, we had our Christmas concert, and it was good to see the talents of our pupils playing a range of instruments and singing so well. This was the first year in which we had a separate boys’ choir and one for girls and both vocal harmony groups demonstrated a high level of performance and confidence. It was an enjoyable evening which unfortunately was not as well attended as we would have hoped, largely due to illness. I would like to thank all of the students involved and express my appreciation to all of the music staff for their encouragement and support to the pupils.
We recognise all faiths at Christmas and for those who do not celebrate Christmas, I hope that it will be good to spend time with family and friends and reflect on your beliefs and priorities for the year ahead. It is good to see that our pupils value the importance of kindness and thoughtfulness towards others. The ongoing charity work that is carried out in the school and particularly at Christmas time, is a recognition of their commitment and generosity. Some pupils have asked if the last day of term can be a non uniform day to raise money for worthwhile causes. On this occasion, money raised will go to Leamington Mission and Cancer Research UK. I am sure that the students will raise enough money to make a difference.
The Winter Sports Day took place yesterday and it went very well. I hope all pupils enjoyed the events and I would like to extend my thanks to the staff who organised the Sports events.
Our Year 11 students have worked hard for their recent mock exams and they are making good progress overall. We appreciate how pressurised it can be for all students, including those who are not in Year 11.
As there will be some external examinations for our older students in January, I hope that students will use their time wisely during the holiday period, for rest and revision. Being alert and well rested will help students to return refreshed and boost their levels of concentration.
Season’s Greetings to everyone and I look forward to continuing our work in partnership in 2011.
Yours sincerely, H.H.S. Abbott Headteacher
